To improve supply of water in Dar es Salaam through refurbishment of the piped water infrastructure, city residents will have to wait for almost eight more months for the completion of the project.

The company contracted by the water authorities to do the job – China Aneng Construction Corporation (CACC) told The Guardian yesterday it expects to accomplish the installation of new water pipes in Dar es Salaam Region by next February.

The installation is five major supply points in the city, according to the CACC Site Engineers Zhao Guan Song.

”Installation of new water pipes would involve areas like Kurasini, Makongo, Morocco and Tegeta,” he said and obviously, along Sam Nujoma Road, where this paper caught up with him.

”The installation of fresh water pipes aims at paving way for construction work of new extended roads by both Tanzania Roads Board (TANROADS) and Kinondoni and Temeke Municipal authorities,” he saidInstallation of new water pipes in all five areas would be carried out under the Construction Phase 3 (CP3) worth over 12bn/-, Song said.

So far, the Chinese company has already installed at least 56 pipes between Ubungo and Mwenge, he said.

Song said there were about 1, 344 meters between Ubungo and Mwenge, which have to be covered up by next September.
