People in Tanzania wishing to travel to the UK can now submit their visa application forms to the British High Commission on-line.

According to a press release issued by the Press Officer at the High Commission in Dar es Salaam, Omar Saidi, the service was affective yesterday.

According to Saidi, applicants can submit the forms by accessing a link on the British High Commission website www.britishhighcommission.gov.uk/Tanzania or directly at website: www.visa4uk.fco.gov.uk.

He emphasized that requisite instructions on submitting an on-line visa application are provided on the sites.
’’After submission, the applicant will receive immediate e-mail for acknowledgement.

Within two or three days, the applicant will then receive an e-mail giving an appointment at the British High Commission,’’said the statement.

’’On the date of appointment, the applicant will visit the British High Commission in person, pay the appropriate visa fee, supply two passport size photographs, fingerprinted, submit any required supporting documents, and if necessary be interviewed,’’ the statement added.

He said the UK government had resorted to on-line visa application following delay caused by the previous system.

On-line application will also benefit those based outside Dar es Salaam and wish to travel to the UK.

The Press Officer also said Tanzania was the second country in Africa after Democratic Republic of Congo, where UK visa application had gone on-line. The on-line system of UK visas applications is in operation in 30 countries worldwide.

However, the on-line system would operate simultaneously with the old system where the applicants physically visit the embassy for visa application.

For effectively service delivery, the embassy asked the applicants to make their submissions at least three weeks before the date of travel.
