Tigo has announced the introduced special offer of up to 1,000/- bonus worth of airtime to call and SMS other Tigo subscribers.

The mobile phone operator said it was doing so in line with its objective of enhancing financial inclusion through secure, convenient and reliable transactions.

“The world is moving into a cashless economy and more and more mobile phone companies are using their mobile money platform to give financial access to their subscribers through simple technological inputs and devices,” the firm said in a statement to the media.

It said the offer was meant for Tigo subscribers making at least one ‘Peer-to-Peer’ money transfer through Tigo Pesa.

“We want our subscribers to feel the immediate benefits of using our services. Tigo Pesa allows subscribers not only to transfer money to their loved ones but also to send money directly from their accounts to pay for daily purchases,” explained Tigo public relations officer Alice Maro.

She added to enjoy this value-added benefit, both the sender and receiver must be Tigo Pesa registered subscribers, adding that the bonus amount awarded would be in relation to the highest amount customers were charged for transactions made on the previous day.

Subscribers would receive a notification SMS the following day with the bonus value awarded and could then receive up to 1,000/- bonus worth of airtime to call or SMS any Tigo subscriber.

The firm also reminded its subscribers that, in addition to the tighter Tigo Pesa security measures already in place, they must continue to take responsibility for the safety and protection of their PIN numbers and personal data by not revealing their PIN numbers or any personal information to anyone.

Tigo, which started operations in 1994 as the first cellular network in Tanzania, now covers 26 regions in mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar.

Its services range from affordable mobile voice communications to high speed Internet access and mobile financial services through Tigo Pesa.

The firm is part of Millicom International Cellular S.A. (MIC), which provides affordable, widely accessible and readily available cellular telephony services to more than 43 million subscribers in 13 emerging markets in Africa and Latin America.
