Rotich appointed new EAC deputy chief to replace Kiraso

East African Community Secretary General Dr. Richard Sezibera has appointed Dr. Julius Tangus Rotich from Kenya as deputy secretary general in charge of Political Federation to replace Ugandan Beatrice Kiraso, whose six-year contract expired this week.

Before his new appointment Dr. Rotich was Deputy Secretary General in charge of Finance and Administration. Dr Rotich's seat is will now be occupied by Burundian Jean-Claude Nsengiyumva.

According to a notice about the new deployments, the post of Deputy Secretary General for Productive and Social Sectors formerly held by Nsengiyumva has been assigned to the just- appointed new Deputy Secretary General Jesca Eriyo from Uganda.

Meanwhile, Tanzanian Dr.Enos Bukuku has retained his post as Deputy Secretary General in charge of Planning and Infrastructure.

The 10th Extraordinary Summit of the Heads of State of the EAC held in Arusha on April 28, this year, directed EAC Secretary General Dr. Sezibera to deploy the four most senior EAC officials following the departure of Kiraso and the coming in of Eriyo. According to the notice, the deployments take effect immediately.

Kiraso, who is professionally an economist, has assumed new responsibility as head of the UN Economic Mission for Africa –Sub-Regional Office for Southern Africa based in Lusaka, Zambia.
