Local junior tennis players will again have the opportunity to showcase their skills when the Gymkhana Club hosts the third edition of Mkono Open tournament from April 10.

The club’s tennis section will organise the tournament in cooperation with Tanzania Tennis Association (TTA).

The event is staged so as to improve budding players and talent scouting.

DGC tennis section captain Inger Njau said the event would be competed in five age categories catering for both boys and girls.

The categories include beginners Under-8, 10, and regular competitors Under-12, 14 and 18. The Under-8 youngsters will only play singles event while the rest will battle it out in both singles and doubles.

“Players participating in the tournament will collect points for their national ranking,” said Njau.

Musoma Rural MP Hon. Nimrod Mkono is behind the sponsorship for the third year running.

Njau said the entry fee will be 2,000/- per participant while insisting on players to register in time to beat the April 9 deadline.

Possibly beginners in Under-8 and 10 are expected to attract attention from enthusiastic parents and supporters.

The quest to boost ranking for the other age categories would spice up the competition.
