Netball bodies of Mainland and Zanzibar have incredulously decided to burry their long-standing differences as of yesterday.
CHANETA and CHANEZA who are catering for Mainland and Zanzibar respectively had a deep scorching rift between them succumbed to Government pressure before reaching the long awaited consensus.
CHANETA’S assistant secretary General Rose Mkisi said the differences have been amicably resolved during a joint session of the bodies that also brought together ministers of information, culture and sport of both sides of the United Republic of Tanzania, over the weekend.
Following the agreement, the national netball team would be formed of players from both sides of the Union.
Players are expected to be selected to form a joint team that will gear up for a series of friendlies and other international meets.
The team is expected to board a London-bound flight for an international tourney under Mary Protas as head coach.
The tourney in England is of paramount importance to boost national team’s ranking as per IFNA grading.
Tanzania is now ranked 23 in the world following efforts by Chaneta to stage an international tourney last year and participation of the team in a world class event held in Singapore.
A major crisis brewed between the two netball bodies when Chaneza complained of being sidelined from involvement in organising a major tourney held in Dar es Salaam in September through October last year.
Since then the two bodies were separated by far with each going solo in organising netball activities.
Last week the Mainland’s minister for information, culture and sport George Mkuchika, came out of shell to scoff at the bodies to end their differences within a week.
The ultimatum aid off as the bodies were on the brink of indefinite suspension to conduct any netball activity in the country.
Chaneta’s chairperson Anna Bayi has been under strong cricticim by Chaneza with acting secretary general Rahima Bakar spearheading the missiles.
After the end of the crisis what remain to be worked out now is the case of Chaneta’s secretary general Anna Kibira who has been suspended by the body.
Kibira has submitted her complaints to the ministry for action.
