Tanzania Breweries Limited (TBL) has donated a water facility to Morogoro referral hospital which was previously facing acute water shortage.

The 25m/- water facility, which comprises a borehole, an electric water pump, a tank tower and a 5000-litre tank, was handed over to the hospital management at the weekend.

Speaking at the handover, TBL corporate affairs director Stephen Kilindo said the facility would go a long way to easing the hardship patients were facing due to acute water shortage at the hospital.

Kilindo said his company has been partnering with the government to scale down the magnitude of social and economic challenges communities face in various parts of the country.

He said his company, in collaboration with the government, has been supporting communities in areas such as health and environment protection.

He said his company has been setting aside part of its profits to community support projects in various parts of the country as a way of living by its promise to give back to the community part of its income.

Dr Lucius Mbombwe, standing in for Regional Chief Medical Officer Dr Godfrey Mtei, said the hospital, with a capacity for 450 beds, consumes an average of 2,750 cubic litres per month.

He said the hospital has been spending about 2,196,500/- per month on water bills supplied by the Morogoro Water and Sewages Authority (MORUWASA).

He said TBL’s support will help reduce water shortage at the hospital, which hampered service delivery at the hospital.

However, he asked TBL to take note of other challenges still facing the hospital and extend its support.

For his part, Morogoro district commissioner Saidi Amanzi urged TBL to scale up its support to the hospital in other areas, saying that there are still many challenges facing it.

He called on other companies to emulate the TBL example by extending help to the hospital.
