International Federation of Swimming Associations (FINA)

Visiting instructor Gerd Nottelmann, who has been sanctioned by the International Federation of Swimming Associations (FINA), said Tanzania should invest in the improvement of the games’ infrastructure to go ahead.

Nottelmann is in the country for a series of training to domestic swimmers and coaches alike.

He also hinted that the Tanzania Swimming Association (TSA) must work hard to train youngsters and coaches to create a basic foundation for the sport.

Swimming lacks enough state of the art pools and thus domestic swimmers have an arduous task to excel at international stages.

Most of the swimming pools available in the country are 25 meters long and are not in conformity with modern ones which have twice the length.

The German instructor was responding to interview when he was conducting training at the International School of Tanganyika (IST) Upanga Camps this week.

The training of both coaches and youngsters of the game would continue throughout next week as well.

Availability of qualified coaches will be an instrumental to promote the game and has to be coupled with construction of modern pools that match international ones elsewhere, so says the instructor.

TSA secretary general Noel Kiunsi said his association is committed to develop the game from the grassroots level and the first step is to train more domestic coaches.    

Kiunsi said TSA hopes that the course will help the country have top and qualified coaches who will take the game to greater heights.

He thanked FINA for sending the instructor who is here for the second time.
 A total of 56 coaches are attending a week-long beginner’s course. These are   Ishita Tanna, Azia Ndee, Khamis Ibrahim Ramadhan, Juma Uwesu Ali, Meg Meiners, Aime Maulid, Moses Ntilema, Faustine Magige, Rose H Lyimo, Gilman Nyamubi and Rachel Mwangi.
Others are Sheha Mohammed Ali, Hana Ali, Othman Ali, Isihaka Khani, Hassan Mussa, Kundi Abdallah Kundi, Juma Abdallah Juma, Aliy Juma Amine, Fumu Kombo Khamis, Kombo Makame Makame, Mussa Makame Ally, Bakar Hamad Said, Makame Jecha Makame, Samson Makere, Samwel Mtupo, Khalid Rushaka, Julie Stait and Ezekiel Msaka
