The national women football team (Twiga Stars) will lock horns with Bongo Movie stars today in an exhibition match to be held at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam.
The match has been organized to raise funds for Twiga Stars who are preparing for their African Women Championship (AWC) knock-out stage tie against Ethiopia.
According to a press release signed yesterday by the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) media officer, Boniface Wambura, two percent of the proceeds of the match will be channeled to the family of the late local movie star Steven Kanumba, who died on April 7.
The finals of the biennial competition in women’s football for national teams which belong to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) will be staged in November in Equatorial Guinea.
Entrance fees for the match will be 10,000/- for VIP A, 5,000/- for VIP C and B and 2,000/- for orange, green and blue stands.
The match will kick-off at 04:00pm.
Twiga Stars will play away in Addis Ababa in the first leg to be held on May 26 before the return leg tie two weeks later at home.
Stars beat Namibia 7-2 on aggregate in the preliminary stage of the tournament, with a 2-0 win in Windhoek followed by a 5-2 victory in the second leg held at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam.
Last month, the deputy minister for Information, Youth, Culture and Sports, Fenella Mukangara, launched a Twiga Stars account through Tigo Pesa to generate funds for the women’s national football team.
Those wishing to contribute to the team have been asked to send their donations through phone number 13389.
