Mgambo Shooting’s pace towards the premiership berth promotion was checked by Police Tabora during their sixth round match played at the Jamhuri Stadium in Morogoro on Sunday.

The pace makers were forced to rally from behind and claim the 2-2 dramatic draw.

The Tabora cops were two goals ahead up to the end of the first half thanks to Ernest Mkandi’s fifth minute opener. Mkandi released a power-packed shot that was too hot to be handled by Mgambo’s custodian Kulwa Manzi.

Kenneth Masumbuko doubled the tally for the Tabora cops five minutes to the half time mark to leave leaders Mgambo progressed into the dressing rooms heads down.

Coached by former Stars player Joseph Lazaro, Mgambo Shooting reduced Police’s leading margin after 58 minutes through Salum Kipaga’s blockbuster.

Juma Mwinyimvua scored the all important equaliser for Mgambo seven minutes to regulation time when he made full use of Fully Maganga’s cross from the left flank.

Both Mgambo and Police Morogoro have shown strong quest to cruise into the Mainland premiership berth after good performance in the ongoing intermediate league matches.

The Mgambo team was leading the pack of the nine-team league with twelve points ahead of yesterday’s matches.

Both Mgambo and Police Morogoro had posted four and three victories, respectively, without conceding a loss before Sunday’s matches.

However, Mgambo who have played one more game and have drawn thrice in six appearances.

Tanzania Prisons and Rhino Rangers have tied at eight-point mark after playing five and six matches, respectively.

Transit Camp is at the bottom of the nine team league with just a point in five appearances.

The team has almost lost hope of wining the premiership berth for the next season unless miracles happen.

Four teams would be promoted into the Mainland premier league berth for next season expected to kick off in August.

The teams would fill gap left by two other teams from the ongoing premiership with Moro United and Police Dodoma as likely candidates so far.

The number of teams in the top flight berth is expected to increase to 16 from the present 14.

While Police Morogoro have once featured in the premier soccer business, before bouncing back into the first division pool, Mgambo Shooting will be attempting to earn maiden appearance.
