Scottish band Big Jessie members Brian Mullan (L) and Clare Lindley gets down to business at the Muhimbili National Hospital`s children`s cancer ward yesterday.

Visiting Scottish band’s Big Jessie entertained children at the Muhimbili National Hospital cancer ward in Dar es Salaam yesterday.

The entertainment was part of the band’s ten-day tour of the country that also coincides with the annual Scottish week.

The band played soft-tuning music without disturbing the patients out and inside the ward.

The patients, who most of them had their guidance of parents, looked impressed and puzzled by the presence of the band members.

It has been a rare occasion for musicians to entertain patients inside a hospital ward.

Some of them had just starred at the band members. It was the band’s fifth performance since arriving from London last Friday.

The first show was held at the Buguruni School for the Deaf before staging a fund raising performance at a centrally located hotel in Dar es Salaam.

After taking a rest on Sunday, the band was busy since Monday performing at International School of Tanganyika.

Yesterday’s performance at the cancer ward in Muhimbili was preceded by a performance at the Terrace Slipway a day before.

The band is expected to stage a performance at the CCRBT patients also in Dar es Salaam ahead of their tomorrow’s assignment at the Thai Village Restaurant later in the evening.

Their show at the Dar es Salaam Yacht Club for members and guests will culminate the end of their busy series for the week.

The proceeds from various shows the band has staged during the week will be channeled to the Buguruni School for the Deaf and the Muhimbili National Hospital’s children cancer ward.

The band’s visit has been organized by the Caledonian Society of Tanganyika, Tanzanear and strongly backed by the British Airways in terms of return air flight tickets.

A similar visit was also made last year during the Scottish week by another band.

The Big Jessie band is based in Aberdeen, a city in the Northern Scotland.
