The national boxing team which competed unsuccessfully at the Africa Olympic Games qualifying event in Morocco will return home on Monday.
Boxing Federation of Tanzania (BFT) Secretary General Makore Mashaga said yesterday that the six-man team will arrive in Dar es Salaam in the afternoon.
The team comprising four boxers and two officials did not qualify for standard set for the London Olympics Games to last from July 17 to August 3.
Emilian Patrick was beaten by18-year- old Isaac Zion Dogboe from Ghana in a quarter final bantam weight match while Selemani Kindunda also lost to Moroccan Mehdi Khalsi in another quarter final match in the same category.
The other two, Victor Njaati and Kassim Abdallah, were eliminated in the preliminary rounds. Makore said BFT will mow wait for official results from International Boxing Federation (AIBA) on boxers who have qualified for the Games as best losers.
According to the Amateur International Boxing Association (AIBA) two best losers in the qualifying games will get tickets to compete.
Mashaga said if local boxers would not go through, the team would start preparing for the Commonwealth Games.
Three local athletes have so far qualified for the London games. They are Zakiah Mrisho (marathon), Samson Ramadhani (marathon) and Magdalina Moshi (swimmer)
