Tanga Motor Club is urgently in need to stage motor rally before the end of the ongoing season after blowing their opportunity last month.

The club’s spokesman, Riaz Jaffer, said officials are communicating with the Automobile Association of Tanzania, AAT to find a space in the calendar for the ongoing season.

AAT had earlier accommodated the Tanga club in its calendar of activities for the season but things fell apart.

Hussein Moor, who used to be an official of the club, resigned from the club leadership at eleventh hour when preparations for the rally reached its height last month.

His stepping down completely dashed hopes of the club to stage the event as a replacement would not be found with immediate effect to keep preparations in track.

As a result the club’s allotted opportunity was thrown overboard and the only way to stage the event banks on whether AAT can find a space in the calendar before December.

Jaffer said efforts are underway to convince AAT in finding a space within the available calendar to stage the event.

The rally cancellations rocked preparations for most of the drivers who had been gearing up to compete in the event that counts towards national championship.

This is not the first time for Tanga club to be involved in leadership crisis that has resulted in cancellation of such events and eventually disrupting the smooth run of AAT events.

It was under similar circumstances when the club announced cancellation of a rally two years ago as a result of official’s resignation when preparation was at its final stages.

Of late there has been a drop in the number of drivers who represents the club at national championship rallies with blood brothers Issa and Abdul Mohamed sidelining themselves from the sport.

Said Baghoza is still at the helm while the country’s best navigator for the past two seasons, Awadh Bafadhil, has moved to Dar es Salaam to gain partnership with Kirit Pandya.

However, the AAT chief executive officer, Yusuf Ghor, denied to have received any communication related to a request to stage rally for the Tanga club.

Ghor said AAT is always there to serve clubs and make sure motor sports events are well coordinated.

He declined to say whether the request from the Tanga club will be entertained or not should the club table it.

He said the next event in the AAT calendar is the Arusha rally expected to be staged during the first weekend of the next month.

Unlike the rest of the clubs in the country, Arusha has been consistent to organise its annual event and sometimes the club organizes two rallies within a season.

After the Arusha rally, the Kobil Africa rally of Tanzania will be staged in September.

The last event in the AAT calendar is the rally in Morogoro expected to be staged in December.

However, there is still a wide gap within the AAT calendar after the continental rally enough to organise an event but banks heavily on decisions to be made by the AAT.

So far three rallies have been staged in Dar es Salaam and Kilimanjaro and Dar es Salaam driver Dharam Pandya is in the lead.
