Africa Zone V basketball championship which was supposed to be staged in Dar es Salaam next month has suffered a two-month postponement, the Tanzania Basketball Federation’s president Musa Mziya confirmed yesterday.

Mziya said the event would be staged in Dar es Salaam later in October.

The reason behind the change of date is based on avoiding interruption with other FIBA Africa events during August.

However, Mziya said TBF is trying both ends against the middle to search for sponsorship that looks elusive at the moment.

“TBF is still struggling to search for sponsorship and the change of date is almost as a blessing in disguise to give us a lifeline and sigh of relief as we are trying to keep everything on track,” said Mziya.

The zonal championship would be competed by gender balanced clubs of Eastern Africa as Savio (men) and one of the army women teams would represent the nation.

The TBF president made a call to the entire public, including private firms, to support the preparations of the regional championship that would shape up our teams.

TBF has been struggling to raise funds for various basketball activities as the season has reached a half way stage.
