International designers who took part at the just-ended Swahili Fashion Week (SFW) have hailed organisers of the event as it has opened them to international markets.

This year SFW was attended by designers from Kenya, Uganda, Angola, Zambia, Malawi, South Africa, Botswana and Mozambique.

Malawi designers Cathy Kamthunzi of Spectacular Fashions and Clemoh Sato of International Designs said they were excited to have represented their country as the event gave them many opportunities.

ìThis is a big event which attracted several designers and it gave us a platform to interact with some of them and share ideas but at the same time it connected us to buyers from Europe and the US and other countries,î said Kamthunzi.

ìIt was a good event and I have once again gained a lot. As usual I linked up with designers from other countries to learn how they conduct their business,î said Clemoh.

Brenda Nambi of Uganda, Charity Nyirongo and Tawani Clarke both from Zambia and Rui Lopes and Hadir Tati from Angola all expressed their happiness and said that they had learnt a lot from this year's event .

Tawani Clarke promised that she would come again next year.

ì I have been to many international designing competitions and shows but to be honest I have learnt here," she said.

Swahili Fashion Week is a fast-growing platform for fashion and accessory designers from Kiswahili-speaking countries to showcase their talents.
