The government has hailed Singida Urban lawmaker Mohammed Dewji for his efforts to build ward secondary schools in his constituency.

The praise was given yesterday by Education and Vocational Training deputy minister Philipo Mulugo when answering a supplementary question by Diana Chilolo (Special Seats- CCM), who had urged the government to chip in and supplement Dewji’s efforts by supplying the schools the MP built with laboratory equipment and science teachers.

In appreciation of Dewji’s initiative, Mulugo said, the government would equip all the laboratories at the schools and give them enough teachers.

“The government, in addition, has decided to construct two model secondary schools in Singida Urban constituency. It will also complete some of the schools which the legislator has initiated,” the minister said.

In the basic question, Dewji had wanted to know about government plans to supply ward secondary schools in his constituency with laboratory equipment and books.

“The residents have responded positively to CCM’s policy to construct ward secondary schools, but the schools lack libraries and laboratory equipment,” he said.

The minister said the government was determined to assist in the completion of ward secondary schools in the country, adding that in the period from 2005 to 2009 it had issued subsidies for the construction of 311 laboratories and 57 libraries countrywide.

“In the financial year 2010/2011 a total of 264 schools countrywide would be completed, including construction of their laboratories and libraries,” Mulugo said.
