Simba SC are on the verge of being crowned Mainland Premier League champions, but face a tall order to win tomorrow’s game and if Azam FC lose their game or obtain a draw.
The Msimbazi Street side host Moro United at the National Stadium while Azam FC welcome Mtibwa Sugar at Chamazi grounds, on the outskirts of the city.
Soccer fans will be pensive about the outcome of the two matches to see if the title race has ended or it continues.
A win for Simba and a loss or draw for Azam FC paves the way for the Msimbazi Street side to be crowned while they still have a match to go, against their archrivals Yanga. If Simba win and Azam lose the leaders will be tallying 59 points, beyond the reach of Azam.
Second-placed Azam with 50 points can only claim the title by winning all three remaining games, while Simba loses at least one of their two remaining games. If both teams win tomorrow’s tie, Simba will need a draw in their prestige-laden clash with Yanga to take the title, even if Azam win their remaining games.
Simba will be in trouble if they lose one of their last two games and Azam win. If this occurs, ties on points and other rules will be applied to get the more deserving side to be crowned champions.
Azam FC are yet to play Mtibwa Sugar, Toto Africans and Kagera Sugar.
