Mainland trio of Azam, Simba and Young Africans have confirmed to compete in this year’s edition of Kagame Cup football championship that kicks off on July 14.

Zanzibar will be represented by Mafunzo in the tournament that would last for two seeks.

The tournament will be staged at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam as Eritrea and Sudan are yet to submit their confirmation.

Dar es Salaam has continued to dominate as the tournament host following Mwanza’s failure to meet hosting requirements albeit lack of sponsorship.

A total of 14 teams have confirmed to compete in the tournament with only Eritrea’s Red Sea and Sudanese El Merreikh yet to confirm.

Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) information officer Boniface Wambura said the secretary general of the Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) Nicholas Musonye will be informed of the latest tournament preparation development.

Teams lined up for the tourney and their respective countries in bracket are Tusker (Kenya), Atletico (Burundi), Ports (Djibouti), Wausalam FC (Southern Sudan), Elman (Somalia), Uganda Revenue Authority (Uganda) and Rwanda’s APR.

Some of the matches will be played at the Chamazi Stadium where Azam team is based.

Young Africans are title holders who tallied their fourth title since the tournament was inaugurated in 1974 with remarkable final match victory over archrivals Simba at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam last year.

Simba have won the title six times and stand as one of the favourites should they shuffle their cards right.
