The two-day Safari Open championship will be staged at the Lugalo Golf Club in Dar es Salaam from Saturday July 14, the Tanzania Golf Union’s administrator, Sophie Nyanjera, has confirmed.
 The event has attracted a bumper entry of over 80 amateurs who are expected to battle it out for top honours.

Among the participants are those low handicappers who are expected to vie for the TGU order of merit series.
 The rest of the participants will be for a subsidiary event particularly for recreational golfers.

 The TGU chairman Paul Matthysen is among the dignitaries of the game expected to travel all the way from Arusha to feature in the tourney.
 Nyanjera said there is a need to get support from both individuals as well as corporate sponsorship.

She said already Holtan East Africa Limited has pledged huge support to facilitate the staging of the championship which is open for both male and female amateur golfers.

The event was skipped during the previous season owing to lack of sponsorship.

Robert Scheltens, the Holtan’s official, has shown the way as he gears up to compete in the tourney.

Already golfers from other clubs across the country such as Arusha, Moshi, TPC, Morogoro and Missenyi have confirmed to join the tournament fray next weekend.

The Lugalo Golf Club is reported to be in terrific shape as the green keeper has laboured to keep fairways in shape and playable green to suit participants.

Winner of the tournament will be decided on net scores as the case has been the tradition of the event which was established to promote higher handicappers.

Most of the members of the national team golf are also expected to compete in the tourney.
 Some of them on their way to Dar es Salaam to contest for the prizes include
skipper  Frank Roman, Abbas Adam, John Leonce, Nuru Mollel, Jimmy Mollel, Elisante Lembris, Isaac Anania and John Leonce to mention a few.

Meanwhile, Nyenjera has made a call for public support to boost gold promotion in terms of providing sponsorship especially the national team and its players.
