The Tanzania Olympic-bound contingent would board a Heathrow-destined flight early next month before receiving the needed bursary allocated to them by the Government.

The team, which has submitted a budget projections to the tune of 13m/- and $27,450 to cater for athletes and officials, has been advised to fly without the money until the budget of the Ministry for Information, Youth, Culture and Sports is tabled on July 18 in Dodoma.

The Tanzania Olympic Committee (TOC) secretary general Filbert Bayi said his committee has submitted to the government the above mentioned budget estimates.

Leonard Thadeo, the director of Sports in the Ministry for Information, Youth, Culture and Sports, confirmed to have received TOC budget estimates and said his ministry is waiting for the Parliament to approve its budget.

He said his ministry will dispatch to TOC the money once his ministry budget estimates are approved by the Parliament. He also said the delay will not have any negative impact to the athletes as the money is to be used while the team is in London.

The country will be represented at the Games by swimmers, boxers and runners.

In related development, Bayi said injured female athlete Zakia Mrisho is expected to fly back from Nairobi where she went for treatment on June 28.

Bayi declined to comment if the runner, who qualified for the London Games, will join the camp in Kibaha. He said TOC will make decision after examining the athlete’s medical report.

Meanwhile, Boxing Federation of Tanzania (BFT) has said coach Remmy Ngambo will accompany Olympic-bound boxer Seleman Kidunda to London.

The federation general secretary Mashaga Makore said Ngambo is a qualified coach with credentials recognized by international boxing federation (AIBA)
