Tanzania national women soccer team, Twiga Stars, defensive lynchpin Sophia Mwasikili, who plays professional football in Turkey, is expected to rejoin the team early next week.
The team’s head coach, Charles Boniface, said he has communicated with the player through a telephone call and there was a good response from her.
Boniface said Mwasikili is expected to board a return flight home anytime next week as the Turkish women premiership winds up on Sunday.
Mwasikili is the only Tanzanian women player to have secured a European contract and played a key role for Twiga Stars in the qualifiers leading to the Women African Championship finals to be held in Equatorial Guinea in November.
The centre back missed the first leg tie against Ethiopia played in Addis Ababa last weekend as Twiga Stars suffered a 2-1 loss.
The Tanzania team are in must win situation to revive hope of featuring in the WAC for the second successive appearance.
Twiga Stars meet Ethiopia at the National Stadium on June 16 and the aggregate winners of the match would cruise into the finals in Equatorial Guinea.
The arrival of Mwasikili is likely to boost the home side’s qualification bid for the Equatorial Guinea event.
The team made its maiden appearance during the 2010 finals hosted by South Africa soon after the men’s World cup in 2010.
