Nuru Mollel bagged his first Tanzania Golf Union sanctioned title for the opening season after edging his brother Jimmy on the first hole of the sudden death play off at the Morogoro Gymkhana Club yesterday.
The duo ended the regulation 36 holes tied on 151 shots ahead of the sudden death play off. It was the winner who won the toss and teed off first at the par three first.
He took a seven iron of Titleist brand that powered his ball to a perfect flight close at the apron, same as his brother.
However, Jimmy had a poor chip that overshoot the brown while Nuru’s ball was inches wide of the pin.
Jimmy generously accepted the defeat to finish runners up of the opening event of season. Following the victory, Nuru who won the TGU order of merit title for the previous season is has taken a leading role in the new season.
The duo was overnight leaders with one over par 73 at the end of the first round played last Saturday. They also tied on six over par 78 at the end of the final round to tie at seven over par 151.
Beside the low handicappers, a huge number of recreational golfers also took part in the tourney.
The Morogoro Open was sponsored by Cargostars Limited for the 16th year in a row since 1997.
