The annual Tango Open championship is expected to start at the Dar es Salaam Gymkhana Club courts on June 23.
The two-day competition is always an attraction for players from Morogoro, Arusha, Tanga, Mkuranga, Zanzibar and Dar es Salaam with players from Kigamboni, Masaki, University of Dar es Salaam, Tegeta, Msasani and the host club, Gymkhana.
The event will be competed in selected age categories between eight and 18 years on a knock out basis.
Dar Gymkhana tennis coach Sebastian Mtupili said this year’s event will open room for young talents to shine.
“We have a good number of players and look forward to a wonderful tournament,” he said.
The organisers have set aside fabulous prizes for various winners of the tourney. Joseph Tango, who happens to be the golf captain for the third year running, is the sponsor of the tourney.
Tango used to play tennis on recreational basis before romping to golf but still has strong and rare devotion to the tennis game.
