Hundreds bid farewell to Editor Willy Edward
Civic United Front (CUF) national Chairman Prof Ibrahim Lipumba yesterday led hundreds of Dar es Salaam mourners to pay last respects to Jambo Leo Chief Editor the late Willy Edward (38) who passed away on Saturday in Morogoro region.
In his address, Lipumba conveyed condolences to the mourners and journalists saying during his lifetime the late Edward executed his job professionally.
“I would like to send my condolences to society, media and relatives for losing a person who was committed to seeing the media industry improving”, he said.
He said the only way to continue remembering the late Edward is to embrace what he was doing and take over from where he left. He said human beings can do nothing to resist death, but the good thing is to pray for him.
Speaking on behalf of Media Owners Association of Tanzania (MOAT) IPP Chairman Dr Reginald Mengi said it is so sad to lose a young journalist, adding that his death has a direct impact on the society and media owners.
“I have lost two children, Edward and my son because he was also born in 1974. My sincere condolences goes to his family because I know the kind of pain they felt for losing their beloved one…keep on praying to God so that he rest in peace”, said Mengi.
CCM Ideology and Publicity Secretary Nape Nnauye said the late Edward was publishing worthy news stories that informed and educated the society.
Meanwhile Tanzania Editors Forum (TEF) Chairman Absalom Kibanda thanked all media stakeholders for their participation and facilitation of funeral activities.
He said some TEF members will accompany the family of late Edward to Serengeti in Mara region where the burial will be done on Saturday.
The late Edward has left a widow and three children. The late Edward collapsed and died Saturday in Morogoro region when preparing to return to his hotel after paying a visit to his children who were in Morogoro.
He went to attend a census seminar organised by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).
