Simba retains top seat in Bocco brace

SIMBA have made their way back to the top spot in the Mainland Premier League after cruising to a 2-0 win over Ndanda FC at the latter's venue, Nangwanda Sijaona Stadium in Mtwara yesterday.

Simba's striker, John Bocco (R) challenges Ndanda's defender during a past Mainland Premier League match.

Towering forward, John Bocco, drilled in the two goals on the 52nd and 54th minutes to see his outfit push Azam FC to the second spot.

Azam FC had briefly enjoyed the driver's seat after posting a 3-0 win over Stand United at the Azam Complex in Dar es Salaam a day before.

Simba and Azam FC have registered 26 points from 12 matches and both teams boast of unbeaten spell. Simba, though, have a better goal average.

In the yesterday match, Simba had a glorious chance on the third, in which winger Shiza Kichuya teed up Bocco inside the hosts' area, only to see the latter fail to slot home.

Ndanda FC defense was under siege on the 13th minute as midfielder Jonas Mkude stringed a pass to fellow midfielder, Mohamed Ibrahim, and the latter's left foot shot from the edge of the area went over.

Ndanda were presented with a good opportunity on the 22nd minute, in which midfielder Hemed Koja was released by striker Mrisho Ngasa inside Simba's penalty area and the former could only shoot over.

The hosts had an opportunity to register the opener on the 25th minute after striker Jacob Masawe was released inside the visitors' area and attempted a right foot shot which was palmed away by goalkeeper Aishi Manula.

Manula then made a quick reaction to keep Massawe's team mate, John George, at bay.

Neither side found the back of the net in the first half.

The visitors made a couple of dangerous forays into the hosts' area during the first few minutes of the remaining part of the game, as they showed intent on claiming a win.

Bocco put Simba ahead on the 52nd minute with a header off a good corner kick by Kichuya.

Bocco drilled in the second on the 54th minute, lobbing the ball over Ndanda keeper, Jeremiah Kisubi, from within the latter's 18 yards.

Kisubi made good saves to keep Simba's Said Ndemla and Moses Kitandu thereafter.

Although Ndanda pushed forward on several occasions later in the match, they found it difficult to unlock Simba's defense, which was marshaled by Yusuf Mlipili and Juuko Murshid.

The day also saw Prisons edge Iringa's Lipuli FC at the latter's venue. Striker Mohamed Rashid drilled in the all important goal for the eventual winners.

Yanga, who are currently positioned third in the log, have an opportunity to keep on putting pressure on the top two teams as former confront Mbao FC at the CCM Kirumba Stadium in Mwanza today.
