Airtel touts financial inclusion as it disburses 2.1bn/- in dividend

AIRTEL Money subscribers who include over 60,000 agents will share a handsome 2.1bn/- in profits earned during the last three months as the company implements government financial inclusion plan.

Airtel Tanzania Limited’s acting Managing Director, Fidelis Kaijage said the cash is profit made from interest earned hence will be distributed to all Airtel Money customers and agents across the country to those who have used the platform in the last three months.

“We are happy with the growth pace of our Airtel Money customers as we continue to see a double digit growth,” said Kaijage on behalf of Managing Director, Sunil Colaso.

He pointed out that it’s the seventh time that Airtel paying dividend to subscribers of its mobile money platform since 2015. The company has so far shared 16bn/- with its clients during the period.

Airtel Money customers who qualify to receive the dividend will get it through their handsets mobile wallets which they can withdraw of use to purchase goods and services.

Kaijage further noted that Airtel Tanzania is committed in improving and bringing closer its mobile money services to serve the unbanked population across the country. In promoting financial inclusion, Airtel recently launched ‘Tuko nawe kila kona’ campaign to rollout of 500 Airtel Money branches.

 Airtel Tanzania’s Corporate Communications Manager, Jackson Mmbando backed Kaijage’s observations pointing out that the company is committed towards taking its services closer to customers across the country.

“Airtel has been opening Airtel Money branches all over the country to provide the most affordable and innovative products and services, we expect to launch more Airtel Money branches in the next coming months,” Mmbando said.

“Our customers can be assured of a one stop shop to withdraw money free of charge but also benefit from our TIMIZA services such as instant unsecured loans to cater for their short-term emergency needs,” he added.

According to a December 2018 Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority report, Airtel Money services has shown steady growth of about 25 percent. “To serve our growing customer base with Airtel Money services, we have also integrated our systems with various payment platforms such as e-government where customers can make several payments at a go,” the Corporate Communications Manager noted.

Airtel Money is also connected to over 40 banks in the country which make it possible for customers to do instant money transfers from their bank accounts to their Airtel Money wallet anywhere and at any time.
